There is a very disturbing trend that is occurring within the Louisiana educational system. While Common Core is the most talk about issue, the growing number of arrests involving teachers and inappropriate relations with students is the issue that needs to be solved.

Just yesterday we reported the story of an East Baton Rouge Parish educator being arrested on sex charges. Today a similar story comes to us from the Lake Charles area.

Authorities in Lake Charles have arrested and charged 35 year Sommer Nicole Odom of Iowa on multiple sex charges. These charges suggest that Odom allegedly engaged in sexual acts with a student at Lake Charles Academy. These acts allegedly occurred while  Odom was employed at the school.

Based upon information  provided by the alleged victim's mother a complaint was filed. Lake Charles Deputy Chief Mark Kraus told the Louisiana Radio Network what happened that lead to the arrest of Odom.

"We have searched the suspect's residence and did some work at the school itself interviewing people to support the allegation,"

Based upon information obtain in the investigation so far, Odom has been charged with 3 counts of oral sexual battery, 4 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, and 1 count of sexual battery. Deputy Chief Kraus said there is a possibility of more charges being filed in the case as the investigation continues. Bond for Odom is currently set at $120,000 dollars.
