Motorist on I-10 between Welsh and Duson were probably wondering if they had some how driven on the the set of a high speed action movie yesterday.

There were cars driving on the shoulder of the road. There were officers from Louisiana State Police driving with lights and siren. There were spike strips deployed. After 24 minutes of tense highway drama there was an arrest.  28 year old Shannon Laycock of Lake Charles was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail on  multiple charges.

According to Trooper David Anderson with Louisiana State Police the incident began on I-10  around 2pm near the community of Welsh. Laycock was allegedly observed passing vehicles on the shoulder of the roadway. When she was spotted by a Louisiana State Trooper she then sped away from the officer driving in a very reckless manner. The trooper then gave pursuit.

Laycock continued to drive recklessly in and out of traffic and on the shoulder. Her vehicle was eventually stopped near Duson when spike strips were deployed.  During the course of the incident one trooper suffered minor injuries and three patrol units suffered minor damage.

Laycock was charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, speeding, driving on the shoulder, 2 counts of aggravated battery as a result of her striking police vehicles with the car she was driving, and resisting arrest.  She will also face additional charges in Jeff Davis Parish.
