Louisiana residents have shown a markedly bigger interest in early voting for the presidential primary than for last year's gubernatorial election.

Almost 100,000 ballots have already been cast in Louisiana's presidential primary after a week of early voting, according to The Advocate.

More than twice as many people have voted early this year than the 2012 presidential primary.

The Advocate reports about 49,526 Democrats and 41,889 registered Republicans have voted in person or via absentee ballot.

Roughly 234,000 people voted early in last year's gubernatorial primary.
