British actor Christopher Lee has died at the age of 93. He actually passed away on Sunday at a hospital in Chelsea, England after being treated for respiratory problems. The family delayed a public announcement until close family members were informed.

The actor first made his name playing Dracula in the Hammer Horror films. However, it was the latter part of his career where he was introduced to a new generation of fans as a star of some of the world's biggest franchises: Count Dooku in the Star Wars films, Saruman in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

There was also a successful partnership with Tim Burton in films including Alice in Wonderland and Sleepy Hollow.

Lee was also even knighted in 2009 and branched out into music in the latter part of his life.

Christopher Lee was married to Birgit, aka Gitte, since 1961 and the couple have one daughter, Christina. When asked about the secret to a long marriage, Lee replied, “Marry someone wonderful.”
