UL sophomore catcher Lexie Elkins

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun softball team will play host to the Lafayette, La. Regional this weekend in the 2014 NCAA Softball Championships.

Louisiana (44-8-1), the top-seed in the regional, and the #6-overall national seed, will take on the Texas Southern Tigers (31-18) in their first game on Friday night at 6 o'clock.

The first game of the regional will feature the Texas Longhorns (33-21) taking on the Mississippi St. Bulldogs (38-19) at 3 o'clock.

Louisiana is a national seed for the first time in program history, meaning they will get to host an NCAA Super Regional for the first time ever, provided they win the regional this weekend.

Tickets for the Regional games can be purchased at the Cajundome Box Office.  Softball season ticket holders and RCAF Annual Fund members get priority until Wednesday, then remaining seats will become available.  Fans can join RCAF Annual Fund today to qualify for priority seating.

If the Cajuns are going to be successful in the regional, they will likely need solid production from catcher Lexie Elkins.

Elkins, the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, is hitting a .399, with 18 home runs, and 68 runs batted in, along with a .792 slugging percentage coming into the regional.

A sophomore from Victoria, Texas, Elkins says she's excited about the regional, and that she attributes her success in her first season in a Cajun uniform to just trusting the process:
