It appears we aren't in a baby-friendly state.

A new study from WalletHub examined the cost of having and caring for a child as well as the baby friendliness of each state.

Using government data, WalletHub researchers ranked and compared each state based on factors such as: hospital delivery costs, health insurance premiums, parental leave policies, and nationally accredited child-care centers.

Louisiana was only one better than the worst state, Mississippi.

While our brethren to the east did rank dead last overall, when it came to lowest average annual infant-care costs, the state ranked first.

Our nation's capitol meanwhile ranked worst for child care due to its high average annual infant-care costs.

On the flip side, Vermont ranked first overall as the best state to have a baby.
