Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun football team continued their winning ways, earning their 7th straight win in front of a home crowd at Cajun Field on Thursday night.

Louisiana (7-2, 4-0) defeated Troy (5-5, 3-3) for the third straight year, downing the Trojans 41-36 in an exciting ballgame.

Exciting is also the perfect word to describe freshmen Cajun running back Elijah McGuire. With his big play ability, he can take it to the house on any play. He showed off those skills in the first quarter, scoring the first touchdown of the game on a 38 yard TD run, and ending the first quarter on a 60 yard TD reception. The 19 year old from Houma finished the night with 142 all-purpose yards.

Ragin' Cajun senior wide receiver and return man Darryl Surgent (pictured) was electric in the first quarter as well, taking a Troy punt 67 yards to paydirt, shifting gears from one side of the field to another before finding several lead blockers.

Quarterback Terrance Broadway was amazing. Playing through flu-like symptoms, he led UL in touchdowns with 4, two through the air and two on the ground. In addition to McGuire, Broadway connected on a 36 yard screen pass to Effrem Reed, who followed a bevy of Cajun blockers for the touchdown. It was the final score of the first half, as Louisiana led 35-26 at intermission.

Troy would claw their way back into the game, threatening to take a late lead. Forcing a 4th and goal from the UL 3 yard line, with only 2:05 left in regulation, the Trojans attempted a pass in the back of the end zone. UL safety and Breaux Bridge native Trevence Patt knocked the ball away, helping to seal the win for the Cajuns. Louisiana's offense was able to run out the clock, ending Troy's upset bid.

The Cajuns are 3-0 in midweek games this season, winning two Tuesday conference games on the road earlier in the season. It appears the Cajuns will play on Saturday the rest of the way. With three more regular season games, Louisiana is likely heading back to the R&L Carrier's New Orleans Bowl, which is set for Saturday, December 21rst.

Next up for UL, a road game at Georgia State on Saturday, November 16th. Louisiana looks to win their 8th straight, and remain undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play. Kickoff from the Georgia Dome is set for 1:00.
