Louisiana Firm Recalls Roast Beef Deli Meat Due To Possible Listeria Monocytogenes Contamination

BAKER, La. (KPEL) -- A Louisiana company has recalled more than 20,000 pounds of meat due to potential contamination with listeria.

According to information from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Manda Packing Company, an outfit out of Baker, has recalled at least 20,166 pounds of cooked roast beef deli meat.

The recall includes:

• Manda Supreme Roast Beef
• Four Star Cajun Roast Beef
• Four Star Roast Beef
• Cajun Prize Roast Beef
• Manda Supreme Natural Roast Beef
• Manda Natural Roast Beef
• Manda New Orleans Style Roast Beef
• Manda Whole Wet Pack Roast Beef

Each package has a "Sell by" date of May 13, 2013, and has an establishment number of "EST. 8746A" inside the USDA mark of inspection. However, if the meat has been sliced at a retail deli, the package will not necessarily contain these details.

Listeria can cause listeriosis, a potentially fatal disease. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, and nausea. The disease can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections into those with weakened immune systems.
