Legal, medicinal marijuana in Louisiana just took another step towards being a reality. nola.com is reporting The Louisiana House of Representatives OK'd the bill today (June 4), by a vote of 70-29.

If the bill, or apparently when the bill officially becomes Louisiana law, we will become the 24th state to grant cancer patients legal access to medical marijuana.

Gov. Bobby Jindal told reporters last month that he would sign he bill, sponsored by Sen. Fred Mills, R-New Iberia, if it gets to his desk. The last step before it reaches Jindal's office is a vote from the Senate, approving amendments tacked on the House side. That body endorsed an earlier version of the bill on May 4, by a vote of 22-13.

"I want to remind you all what this is all about," said Moreno during her closing statement on the bill. "This is about helping people who are literally begging us, begging us, to help them finally stop their suffering."

Here's how legal medicinal marijuana would work. A patient would obtain a Doctor's recommendation for the medicine, which they would be able to get in non-smokable forms such as oils and pills. They would then go to one of 10 state dispensaries to obtain medicine.
