Louisiana Places 2 In Nation’s ‘Top 20 Allergenic Cities’
Welcome to sneeze-ville, I mean Louisiana. We all know Mother Nature tears up our sinuses from season to season, and it looks like we’re right about it being “bad bad”. Baton Rouge and New Orleans have just placed in the top 20 in the nation for “Most Allergenic Cities”.
Baton Rouge comes in at No. 3 on the list, and New Orleans comes in at No. 18. Memphis and Louisville beat B.R. for the top spot, and I bet Baton Rouge is just fine with that.
From theadvocate.com –
“A lot of it has to do with our climate,” says Dr. Joseph Redhead, an allergist with 20 years of experience at the Baton Rouge Clinic. “I tell people that, essentially, you live in a swamp.”
Baton Rouge’s ranking reflects a high pollen count from last spring and two other factors — the number of allergy-related medicines purchased in the area and the number of allergy doctors in the city.
With so many warm, humid months, south Louisiana has a long growing season, “so there is almost always pollen in the air,” Redhead says.”
So, even though allergy season is pretty darn rough here in Acadiana, it could actually be a lot worse.
However, I can’t believe Pineville and Alexandria didn’t make this list. Seriously, you can barely BREATHE up there.
