The son of a legendary women's basketball coach and head coach of one of the most storied programs in women's basketball has resigned his position. Officials with Louisiana Tech University in Ruston have accepted the resignation of Tyler Summit. Summit, the son of legendary coach Pat Summitt, is alleged to have been involved in an inappropriate relationship.

In his statement Summit told the media he was profoundly disappointed in himself for engaging in behavior that hurt the people he loves and respects the most.

Shortly after Summit's announcement officials at Louisiana Tech released this statement.

Effective immediately and for personal reasons, Tyler Summitt has stepped down as head coach of Louisiana Tech University's women's basketball program. The university has accepted his resignation and appreciates the contributions he has made to the growth and success of the Lady Techsters program during his tenure. Louisiana Tech will immediately begin the process of selecting a new head coach to lead the women's basketball program and student-athletes forward. Louisiana Tech wishes Tyler and his family the best of luck in the future.

The 25-year-old Summit is married and was in his second year as head coach at Louisiana Tech. Summitt went 16-15 in his first season and 14-16 this season.  Previously he had served as an assistant coach at Marquette University. In his statement to the press Summit had this to say about the incident and his resignation.

I am hopeful the media and the public will respect the privacy of my family and me as we deal with this difficult situation I have caused.

According to media reports Summit's inappropriate relationship was with one of his players. The news of the relationship became public when it was announced that the unamed player had become pregnant.
