Days after LSU defensive coordinator Kevin Steele left LSU for Auburn, the Tigers hired his replacement.

Wisconsin defensive coordinator Dave Aranda will fill the position at LSU.

This season, Aranda led a Badgers defense that led the country in points allowed per game(13.1 pts/game), ranked third in overall defense (268 yds/game), fourth in rushing defense (95.4 yds/game) and seventh in passing defense (173.2 yds/game).

In his three seasons as Wisconsin defensive coordinator, the Badgers have allowed an average of 289 yards per contest, number one overall during that three year span.

“This is a great hire for us,” LSU head coach Les Miles said in a University press release. “Dave has an outstanding track record of producing some of the best defenses in college football. We’ve seen him up close and understand how difficult it is to have success against him.

“He’s everything that we were looking for in a defensive coordinator. He’s youthful with tremendous enthusiasm; our players are going to love him. He brings great defensive knowledge to our staff both as a technician and as a strategist. We are thrilled that he’s joining us.”

Aranda takes over an LSU defense that finished 25th in the nation in yards allowed per game at 347.

Aranda's first game as LSU DC will be an interesting one, as LSU opens their 2016 season at Lambeau Field to take on Aranda's former employer, the Wisconsin Badgers.
