Any college football poll that does not include the LSU Tigers seems oddly inaccurate. I know the Tigers have not had their best year but it does seem odd not to see LSU listed somewhere in the nation's elite football powers.

After a two week absence, in my opinion a deserved absence, the Tigers have once again found favor with the national pundits and are ranked at #24 in the current Associated Press College Football Poll. The Tigers are ranked #23 in the Coaches Poll.

A lot of us amateur college football experts figured LSU was done after the Mississippi State loss and the spanking by Auburn. Coach Les Miles, the eternal optimist told you and I not to worry that the Tigers would bounce back and Les was right.

Saturday night LSU can go a long way into climbing back into the national discussion as they host always repulsive Ole Miss Rebels. Ole Miss is really good this year. In fact the Rebels are good enough to be the second best college team in the state of Mississippi.

LSU and Ole Miss always have some wildly strange games. Maybe it's because the game is always close to Halloween or maybe it's because these teams truly don't like each other. The generations of players have come to understand the rivalry and therefore the football game truly is one where the record of either team is of little consequence.

Maybe that is why ESPN's College Game Day football program will broadcast live from Baton Rouge this Saturday Morning. Or maybe it's the fact that LSU versus Ole Miss is the only college football game involving two top 25 teams on the schedule for this weekend. It will be the 10th time the national broadcast has originated from just outside Tiger Stadium.
