If the rain holds off and NCAA Baseball in the Baton Rouge Regional gets underway at 2 PM today LSU Tiger fans can expect Jared Poche to be on the mound. Poche a junior left handed pitcher for the Tigers will enter the game against Utah Valley State with more experience that many of his LSU teammates.

Coach Paul Maineri suggested that Poche's experience pitching the College World Series will certainly be a big plus for the Tigers.

I have a great deal of confidence in him. A couple of years ago he pitched the opening game. He pitched the opening game at the College World Series last year. So I think he will be able to handle the pop and circumstance and all the attention and be calm, cool and collected out there. Obviously he is a top pitcher for us so hopefully he'll get out there and pitch the way he did at the SEC Tournament and get us off to a good start.

Maineri's comments were reported by the Louisiana Radio Network. Meanwhile in his comments to the press Poche explained what his thoughts were before today's opening game.

The Box is crazy when the postseason gets here. I just remember it being out of control and definitely a lot of adrenaline pumping early so I just have to control that and hopefully get us off to a good start.

Poche hopes to keep his excitement under control and remain calm against a very good Utah Valley State Wolverine team. This afternoon's action is scheduled to begin at 2 PM but the weather forecast for the Baton Rouge area is suggesting a good chance of rain. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate and LSU can begin their march toward Omaha and another appearance the NCAA College World Series.
