When someone shoots their mother-in-law, we're pretty sure the cops investigate a little bit harder.

54-year-old Larry McElroy of Lee County, Georgia spotted an armadillo on his property this past Sunday night. So he did what any red-blooded southerner would do, he grabbed his nine-millimeter pistol and went to rid his property of the critter.

But things didn't go according to his devious plan. The bullet ricocheted off the armadillo's shell, hit a fence, traveled about 100 yards, and then went through the door of his 74-year-old mother-in-law's mobile home into her recliner and nailed her in the back.

Doh!

She was taken to the hospital and she's going to recover. The armadillo wasn't so lucky. He perished.

So far, it doesn't look like Larry will face any charges for accidentally shooting his mother in-law or killing a harmless armadillo.
