Many Lafayette residents, including several who work for Townsquare Media, have reported receiving an automated phone call from MidSouth Bank that states their debit card or account has been suspended.

The message then asks the person to speak to an operator to get the account active again.

The problem? MidSouth Bank is not responsible for the phone call.

Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton said he was not aware of the scam, but he said it sounded like a phishing scheme for the personal information of unsuspecting victims.

A MidSouth Bank customer service representative said they have been fielding several phone calls about the scam since 8 a.m., and there appears to be no rhyme or reason to the calls. The representative said there doesn't seem to be any type of connection among the victims.
