Mindy McCready Denies Involvement In Boyfriend’s Death [Video]
Country singer Mindy McCready has denied any involvement in the recent death of her boyfriend, David Wilson.
In an interview with the ‘Today‘ show on Tuesday (Jan. 29), the ‘Ten Thousand Angels’ singer admitted the couple had been fighting the day he died, but said she doesn’t know what happened to him.
Wilson died on Sunday, Jan. 13 at the couple’s home in Arkansas. The 34-year-old music producer was the father of McCready’s second son, 9-month-old Zayne, and served as the co-parent for her first son, Zander, from a previous relationship. In a statement after his death, the singer called Wilson “my soulmate” and “a precious gift from God.” It was initially reported that Wilson died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but last week several publications called that into question, reporting that McCready was under investigation for her possible role in Wilson’s death.
“Oh my god, no. Oh my god, no,” McCready replied when asked directly if she had killed Wilson. “He was my life. We were each other’s life.”
McCready also denied published reports that Wilson had been having an affair and was planning to leave her. “David was not having an affair with another woman,” she said emphatically. “That is absolutely, totally untrue.”
The former chart-topper said Wilson was still alive when she found him on the porch of their home and called 911. She couldn’t explain why investigators didn’t find the bullet that caused his wound immediately. It didn’t turn up until the following day. “I didn’t find it, the dog did,” she maintained. “It was in the dog’s mouth. I mean, that’s a horrific things to say, but it was in the dog’s mouth.”
Cleburne County Sheriff Marty Moss has not yet made a final determination about Wilson’s cause of death, saying he needs more time for various forensic evidence to be analyzed. He has not yet ruled out murder, though McCready has not been named as a suspect. The singer called the investigation a “witch hunt.”
“I have never gone through anything this painful, nor will I ever again go through anything this painful,” she said. “I just keep telling myself that the more suffering I go through, the greater character I’ll have.”
