Unranked Mississippi State beat #12 LSU by 30 points for the first time in the 121 years the schools have been playing, dominating the Tigers in every facet of the game, winning 37-7.

"Put it on me," said LSU head coach Ed Orgeron after the lopsided loss. "We got handled on all fronts."

For four quarters, the Bulldogs physically handled the Tigers in the trenches, shutting down LSU running back Derrius Guice.

"My whole concern all week was whether or not we could block and we couldn't," noted Orgeron.

In addition to getting overpowered, LSU was undisciplined from start to finish. Nine penalties for 111 yards, two player ejections for targeting, missed assignments and multiple dropped balls were all crippling for a Tiger team who seemed bewildered by the Bulldogs success as the game unfolded.

"Mississippi State was a little bit better than I think some of our guys thought they were," added Orgeron.

32 rushes for 256 yards and 2 scores paced the Bulldogs offense, who gave quarterback Nick Fitzgerald a clean pocket all night on his way to 180 yards passing and 2 touchdowns.

LSU's offense scored on an 8 play drive early in the 2nd quarter, but never moved the ball effectively the rest of the night. When they needed plays most, either a penalty or a failed conversion (3-13 on 3rd down, 0-2 on 4th down) slowly chipped away at the Tigers confidence, as the Bulldogs submitted them into defeat.

Simply put, it was as thorough a loss as LSU has had in a regular season game in years.

It wasn't "one play here" or "one play there". It was a night of Mississippi State exposing LSU's depth, lack of discipline and unwarranted overconfidence.

LSU (2-1, 0-1) returns home next week to host Syracuse (2-1) on Saturday night.
