Monsignor Richard von Phul Mouton has died at the age of 86. He passed away on Wednesday afternoon at a local hospital.

Monsignor Mouton has been a fixture in the Acadiana area since the 1950s.

In an interview with KATC TV-3, Jacob Molbert shared his thoughts on the late Monsignor Mouton:

His words always touched you in some way, shape or form. He just related the gospel to where you were in your life at the time, so he really helped me grow as a man.

Mouton was ordained to the priesthood back in 1955. He served several churches in the Acadiana area.

One of those churches was The Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, where he celebrated seven o'clock mass every Sunday morning.

Funeral services have been set for Tuesday at 10:00am at St. John Cathedral.
