With college football bowl games happening now, Pixar has made an ad for their college-themed film 'Monsters University' and unleashed it during the games. It's the sort of clever ad that gives hope that the prequel to 'Monsters, Inc.' has a couple tricks up its sleeve.

By noting that it's an ad for 'Monsters University' it gives away the joke, which is that it's meant to fool you to think it's for a regular college. Sorry about that. But the spot also unveils the film's website, http://monstersuniversity.com/edu/, which offers even more elaborate jokes about the college.

We have high hopes for the film, though -  because it's a prequel - that gives us some trepidations. Most prequels are terrible, or misguided money grabs that lead toward inevitable conclusions. Even the world's biggest fan of 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' would admit the film is a bit bloated.  We're hoping Pixar does this right.

Here's the synopsis for the film:

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

And here's that TV spot. 'Monsters University' hits theaters June 21.
