The driver of bus that was involved in a horrific crash on I-10 has been charged with additional criminal charges in connection with the incident. The driver,Denis Yasmir Amaya Rodriguez, was charged in the deaths of two people who were killed at the scene last week.

A third victim succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash on Thursday. Therefore the charges against Rdriguez have been increased to reflect the passing of 33-year-old Vontarous Kelly of Moss Point, MS. According to Melissa Matey spokesperson for Louisiana State Police the following charges have been made against Rodriguez.

3 counts of Negligent Homicide, 41 counts of Negligent Injuring, Reckless Operation and No Driver’s License.

Matey's comments reported by the Louisiana Radio Network reflected the driver's side of the story. He, Rodriguez maintained that the brakes on his bus failed.

Whether or not there were mechanical failures on board the bus is still under investigation.Right now troopers do believe that speed is a factor.

The crash also took the lives of District Chief Spencer Chauvin with the St. John the Baptist Fire Department and 21 year old Jermaine Starr of Moss Point, MS.

During the investigation of the crash it was discovered that Rodriguez, the driver, was in the country illegally as well. State Police are continuing their investigation into the crash. Federal investigators are also looking into the bus company that owned the bus involved in the crash, including the safety and hiring records of the company involved.
