Crowley Police Chief K. P. Gibson says residents may pick up sandbags until 3:00 this afternoon at the city's Public Works Building.  Crowley is experiencing flooding due to backwater from the Mermentau River flowing into local bayous.  Gibson says the Mermentau is expected to crest Sunday night at over 9 feet, which could result in more water entering the city.  Gibson urges residents who feel their homes are in danger to leave before it is too late.  He is also asking drivers who do not need to be on the road to stay off of the road.  Anyone who needs assistance should call the Crowley Police Department at 783-1234.
