Name Yourself Day – Today’s Offbeat Holiday To Celebrate

When we are born we are given a name. Sometimes that name fits us like a soft leather glove. Other times the name does not fit the person in question. Who would have ever figured that the great John Wayne's real name was Marion?

For those who got stuck with a moniker that just doesn't seem to fit or creates a uniquely awful monogram, I know I'm Bruce Mikells.  Today is your day to do something about it.

Today is Name Yourself Day: A holiday set aside for those of use who don't like our name to create a name that is satisfying and rolls off the tongue. A name like Kellie Pickler, that always rolls off my tongue and down my chin but I tend to drool a lot.

So what would your name be if you could name yourself? Those of you who have unique spellings of your name would you like to go to a more traditional spelling so you could at least buy a key chain in Destin without having to get it airbrushed?

I know Shakespeare said "a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet", but old Billy Shakespeare never had to be referred to as Elphege during roll call in second grade.
