Earlier today, the New Orleans Hornets announced the signing of free agent guard Donald Sloan.

Sloan, a Texas A&M alum and Shreveport native, signed a 10-day contract with New Orleans, marking the second time in his career he's done so.

Sloan played 3 games for the Hornets last season on a 10 day deal, averaging 14 minutes a game. Last year, as a rookie free agent shooting guard, he played 25 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and 5 for the Atlanta Hawks.

He spent 20 games with Cleveland this year, before being waived on Christmas. He's averaging 4.1 points, 1.9 assists and 1.4 rebounds in just under 13 minutes per game this season.

The signing is somewhat surprising, considering shooting guard Eric Gordon has returned from a knee injury. Rookie Austin Rivers and second-year pro Xavier Henry have struggled as backup 2 guards, but head coach Monty Williams has consistently said he wants Rivers to play through his struggles. Henry appears to be on borrowed time.
