If you have ever eaten at Willie Mae's Scotch House Restaurant on St Ann Street in New Orleans, then you know what a wonderful representative of Louisiana culture and comfort food this place is. For over 50 years, it was run by the legendary Willie Mae Seaton, who passed away at the age of 99 on Monday.

Her story of the struggle to reopen the restaurant after Hurricane Katrina is one of the true success stories of New Orlean's rebirth. She was also a winner, in 2005, of the very prestigious James Beard American Classics Award, presented to locally owned and operated restaurants who are renowned for their timeless appeal and quality.

She served her delicious crispy Louisiana fried chicken, red beans, and gumbo to presidents, tv hosts, and regular hungry folks, with love. We will miss her, and her devotion to providing comfort food to one and all.
