Assumption Sinkhole Swallows Boat, 2 Workers Rescued

Assumption Parish Police Jury spokeswoman Kim Torres says the sinkhole near Bayou Corne grew by 50 feet today, as the surrounding environment sloughs into it. Two cleanup workers in a boat near the site almost fell in and had to be rescued by airboat. The only reason they didn't go under was because they had their boat tied to a tree-Yikes!

We saw all the drilling trucks rolling down I-10 yesterday from Acadia Parish to the HUGE sinkhole in Assumption, and, concern is obviously growing about the size. I had a sinkhole in my backyard years ago that kept getting bigger and bigger, and let me tell you, it is a VERY scary thing. Hope the workers can figure out what to do, and keep themselves safe!
