The NFL is forcing Cox Sports Television to pull some of the ads for local seasoning "Slap Ya Mama" in light of domestic violence issues currently facing the NFL surrounding the Ray Rice situation.

Cox Media Director of Sales Marc Leunissen said that "In light of the domestic violence issues facing the NFL, they have instructed CST pull the Slap Ya Mama logo from our enhancements in the last game, Thursday, August 28…"

Apparently, the produced commercials will still run, but the "Slap Ya Mama" red zone promotion will be canceled.

With the Saints playing Baltimore this week, I'm guessing the NFL wants to avoid the awkward moment when Ray Rice enters the "Slap Ya Mama Red Zone".

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to all NFL teams on Aug. 21 saying that the league "has determined that no virtual sineage will be permitted to appear on the playing field or its environs in any NFL game telecasts effective immediately and for the remainder of this preseason…"

Goodell's memo also said that "certain advertisers and brands are not consistent with League standards and messaging."

UPDATE - The NFL is saying the domestic violence issues are not what has prompted them to ban the end zone sponsorship.

In a recent statement, the NFL says : "All teams were notified last week that no virtual signage will be permitted to appear on the playing field in any telecast for the remainder of preseason. The increasing presence of virtual signage can detract from telecasts and create a less desirable viewing experience for fans. Virtual signage has always been prohibited during regular and postseason games."
