Usually with holidays there are changes to residential waste collection. Not this year.

Lafayette Consolidated Government announced that Republic Services will run their regularly scheduled residential collection routes in Lafayette Parish on December 26 through 30 and January 2 through 6.

Residential customers of Republic Services will also have excess garbage collected, which is outside of the 96-gallon cart, on the same day as their regular garbage collection.

This is to alleviate the extra garbage generated from holiday celebrations. However, it should be bagged individually and not exceed 35 pounds per bag. That bagged garbage should be placed three feet away from the automated garbage cart.

Residents are encouraged to recycle excess holiday waste when possible. Lafayette's recycling program accepts items such as paper, cardboard, steel cans, aluminum cans and plastic containers marked #1 and #2.

The LCG Compost Facility at 400 Dugas Rd will be closed on Monday, December 26 and Monday, January 2 and will reopen on the following Tuesday at 7am.
