When you ask people what their least favorite chore around the house is doing the dishes is bound to be in the top three. It's like the last thirty seconds of a basketball game, it never ends. Just as soon as you get the sink empty a child will bring fifty more from the depths of their room where they are not supposed to be taking food. Then the  process of scrubbing and cleaning and drying starts over.

Today is No Dirty Dishes Day: It is a day to not only not do dishes, it's a day to make sure no dishes get dirty. In other words bring out your best paper plates, Styrofoam containers, old newspapers and dish towels those are going to be your plates. Today we will eat with plastic utensils or better yet our hands. The goal of today is to not dirty a single dish so nobody has to wash a single dish.

Today we will take our drinks directly from the bottle or carton. We might use a red Solo cup in homage to Toby Keith. We might drink directly from the garden hose. That's how serious we need to be about this important day.

Among my favorite foods that don't require plates are fried chicken, po-boys, crawfish, hamburgers, and Frito pie. That is if you do the Frito pie right there in the bag. If you're putting your Frito pie in a bowl then you are just too River Ranch for me.

So turn off the water, drain the sink, drop the dishtowel and get ready to drive in and pull through. We are not getting our dainty hands all wet and stinky with grease filled dishwater today. Remember, if someone does drop a dirty dish in your sink by accident you have official holiday permission to let that sucker sit until tomorrow. Unless it's oatmeal, if it's oatmeal you better at least run some water in the bowl because that stuff gets like concrete after a day.
