Oakdale Man Dies In Truck Crash While Not Wearing Seatbelt

42-year-old Sherwin Ashworth of Oakdale died early Saturday morning after he lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet pickup and crashed into a utility pole.

La. State Police say they responded to the crash around 4:20 a.m. Troopers say Ashworth was driving northbound on Sam Cloud Road north of LA Hwy 10 when he crashed, going off the right side of the road. Authorities say he was partially ejected from his seat.

Routine toxicology tests are pending as authorities continue to investigate the crash.

La. State Police remind you that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash.

Troop D has investigated 14 fatal crashes which have resulted in 16 deaths so far this year.
