When the life blood of your city is tourism then any blood spilled in that city is a deterrent to visitors bringing their dollars into to town. New Orleans has been fighting quite a blemish on its image the past few months with reports of violent crimes making headlines not only in the state but across the country. That is not good for city whose image is The Big Easy.

Yesterday New Orleans city officials and state officials made an announcement that should ease the minds of many revelers contemplating a Mardi Gras journey to the Crescent City.

"And with some of the things that have been happening lately, we wanted to send a national message that New Orleans is a great place for visitors,"

That's what Convention and Visitors Bureau President Stephen Perry told the media after it was announced that an additional 150 troopers from State Police would be patrolling the city's prime tourist attractions including the French Quarter.

Perry told the Louisiana Radio Network in a story published today,

"We're looking forward to welcoming people from virtually all 50 states, every city in Louisiana and well over 150 countries from around the world."

The State Troopers will help supplement the New Orleans Police Department in keeping visitors safe and the party under control during long Mardi Gras weekend which will culminate on Tuesday ending at midnight on Ash Wednesday.
