A new mural which pays tribute to early fire fighting was unveiled Friday, May 10, at the Hope, Hook and Ladder Fire Station in downtown Opelousas. The mural is dedicated to all fire fighters – past, present and future. The mural, Early Fire Fighting: A Tribute to Lelle, was painted by a group of local student artists, under the direction of Cindy Pitre. Student artists include Kylie Angers, Kyle Bordelon, Adaire deBlanc, Gabbie Gobert, Aaron Meche, Dakotah Morain, Jamie Papillion, and Paige Vidrine. One of the earliest fire companies in Opelousas, Hope, Hook and Ladder was organized in 1871.

Thank you to our friends at Opelousas Travel for the info, and letting us know about this beautiful mural, and to firefighters and first responders everywhere - a big hug from all of us at 97.3 the Dawg!
