Just in time for Halloween, one of the most famous horror films in history is about to have the spotlight shone on it once again. The original theatrical poster for 1932's 'The Mummy', starring Boris Karloff, is up for auction at Sotheby's Auction House. The online bidding began last week, and will end on Halloween, of course. Sources are expecting that the almost 100 year old original could fetch as high as one million dollars.

The poster, which was designed by Universal advertising director Karoly Grosz, also set a record 20 years ago when it sold for $453,500. The artwork was only supposed to be for the theatrical release of the film, and not ever to be sold to the public. Which is probably one of the reasons why it is so valuable.

The highest ever paid for a 'Golden Age of Horror' piece of movie art was $525,800 for 1931's 'Dracula'. Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett owns one of the only other 'Mummy' posters in circulation. It is very, very rare, and I can't wait to see what this one brings in!
