The Louisiana Department of Revenue says the state will hold another tax amnesty period Oct. 15-Nov. 14.

Revenue Secretary Tim Barfield says a new option added to the program allows delinquent taxpayers to pay debts owed to the state through payments.

That could be quite a benefit to some taxpayers who want to get this off their record.

"That could be quite a benefit to some taxpayers who want to get this off their record, but don't have the resources to pay 100 percent of any back taxes," Barfield said.

Barfield says Louisiana collected $452 million in back taxes during last year's amnesty program. This year's goal is only $100 million.

"The goal is substantially lower, because when you have a tax amnesty period following another the year before, you don't expect to get as much," Barfield said.

During the tax amnesty period, penalties will be waived and the taxpayer only owes 50 percent of the interest that's. For more information go to www.ldrtaxamnesty.com or call 866-782-9241.
