BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A pedestrian struck by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run in Louisiana has died.

The Advocate reports that Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. says 42-year-old Derrick Dewayne Gardner, of Baker, was crossing the street Thursday afternoon in an area that wasn't an intersection and didn't have a crosswalk when he was struck.

Police believe the vehicle involved was an approximately 1992 to 1996 model white or light grey Ford F-150. Coppola says the truck could have damage around the front passenger side and headlight area.

Gardner later died at a hospital.
