Recently we told you about our nation's "Worst Favorite Foods". In that story, one of the foods mentioned was an insidious creation loved by the people of Mississippi called the Koolickle. It's a pickle soaked in Kool-Aid flavored pickle brine.

Now we're being informed of a cocktail chaser that also acts as a hangover preventative. The pickleback is a drink sensation that's been gaining momentum across the trendy bars of New York City. The drink is simply a shot of whiskey followed by a shot of pickle brine.

Those who have tried it swear that the taste is actually good. They swear the pickle juice really accentuates to the great flavor of the whiskey and reduces a bit of the burn. I am going to believe them because I don't plan on giving this cocktail a try.

In looking for more information about the "pickleback" I uncovered a Polish hangover secret. Heavy drinkers in Poland often intertwine shots of pickle juice between rounds and they swear that there is never a "morning after or bottle flu" to contend with.

Part of the real-life science of the pickle juice theory is this. Pickle brine includes a lot of vitamin C and potassium. Those are two of the things your body craves during those tender times after too much the night before.

So, the next time you find yourself in a pickle because of your overindulgence just reach for a pickle or down a swallow or two of the pickle brine. The Poles, the Germans, and even the Japanese swear by it. Besides, it can't be any worse than the taste you'll have in your mouth anyway.
