There has been much written about the "dash" that appears on a grave marker. It is said that within that dash are all the events of your life, the good and the bad. It's what you did during that span between birth and death that you will be remember, reviled, or relegated to being. However, you do have one final say in how eternity , at least on Earth, will remember you.

Today is Plan Your Epitaph Day: A day that is set aside for the living to think about and write down what we'd want our final phrases to be. It's actually your last chance to get your last words in before  you're not there to defend yourself anymore.

This is a day to reflect upon our own mortality. To realize that we will not always inhabit the body that we hate to see in the mirror. We will not always have the thinning hair or the bulging waistline. We too will someday return to dust as hopefully our spiritual remains will attain a much higher place.

Perhaps one of my favorite epitaphs is from TV and movie funny man Leslie Nielsen. Nielsen of The Naked Gun movies fame was notorious for carrying a fart machine with him when he went on interviews. His epitaph reads, " Let er Rip"

So what would be your final words about you? Would you be funny? Would be inspirational? Would you be obsequious and clairvoyant ? Would you wonder exactly what those two words mean? Today is your day to plan your own epitaph, make it memorable because once it's chiseled in stone, it's going to be there for a while.
