Happy Arbor Day, people! Our friends at TreesAcadiana.org have some excellent suggestions on how to not only celebrate the anniversary of this national holiday here in Louisiana, but help our beautiful trees thrive! Nationally, Arbor Day was first celebrated in 1872, and in 1970 President Richard Nixon declared the last Friday in April as the national holiday. Some of the ideas can be implemented at schools around Acadiana, like the ones below.

Plant a Tree

Promote Students planting seedlings at Home

Plan a brief program to call attention to the value of trees

These are just some of the wonderful ideas to let our youth know that theses trees here in Acadiana might not be around forever, so enjoy and cherish them while you can! Just look at the 100 Year Old Oaks on the campus of University of Louisiana Lafayette - beautiful AND historic.
