Day two of the Lafayette, La. NCAA Softball Regional gets underway on Saturday at Lamson Park with two games on the schedule.

The regional is a double-elimination format, with the finals scheduled for Sunday.

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun softball team, the top-seed in the regional, and the #6-overall national seed, will take on the Texas Longhorns in a winners bracket game at noon, followed by an elimination game between the Mississippi St. Bulldogs and the Texas Southern Tigers at 3 o'clock.

The winner of the Louisiana/Texas game moves into the championship round on Sunday, while the loser will play the Mississippi St./Texas Southern winner in an elimination game at 6 pm.

Louisiana advanced into the winners bracket by defeating Texas Southern, 7-4, on Friday night.

The Cajuns, who won the regular season, as well as the postseason Sun Belt Conference Championships, will enter Saturday with an overall record of an overall record of 45-8-1, and winners of 37 of their last 40 games.

Louisiana, who is a national seed for the first time in program history, is appearing in their 24th regional in 25 years, and is hosting a regional for the second time since the Super Regional format began in 2005, as well as the first time since 2012.

Texas, who advanced by defeating Mississippi St., 1-0, on Friday afternoon, brings in a record of 34-21 into the play on Saturday.

The Longhorns, a Women’s College World Series qualifier last year, are participating in their 15th regional in program history.

Mississippi St. will enter play on Saturday with an overall record of 38-20, following their loss to Texas on Friday.

The Bulldogs are making their 11th regional appearance.

Texas Southern, following their loss to Louisiana in the opening day of the regional, is currently 31-19.

The Tigers are playing in their first-ever regional.

Again, the first game on Saturday will feature Louisiana taking on Texas noon.

That game will be followed by a match-up between Mississippi St. and Texas Southern at 3 o’clock.

The winner of the first game will advance to championship Sunday, while the loser of the first game will play the winner of the second game in an elimination game at 6 o'clock.

The championship game is slated for Sunday at noon, with an if necessary game at 3 o’clock.
