Words that rhyme and banter in time become phrases we all truly adore. If we take those rhymes and add our own unique twist on our thoughts and feelings these words become poems. Those poems become cherished memories. I have found that if you really want to win someone's heart or make yourself memorable, write them a poem.

Your poem doesn't have to be an epic tale of men in ships or even a jaunty little limerick. It can simply be a few lines and some words that rhyme, or don't. Personally I don't care for poems that don't rhyme. I like the closure of knowing that every other line is going to sound similar.

Today is Poem in your Pocket Day. It's one of our offbeat holidays we celebrate here at the radio station. The idea behind the holiday is to share your favorite verse with a friend, a co-worker, or even a total stranger. This is the kind of thing that will get you talked about. If you're too aggressive it could get you arrested so stay away from any poems about men from Nantucket, unless you're in the company of good friends.

By the way, here is a great reading of one of my favorite poems. It's by Rudyard Kipling and the name of the poem is " If". It is read by Sir Michael Cane.
