Iberia Parish sheriff's deputies and Louisiana wildlife agents are reportedly currently searching for two black bears that have been seen roaming through a New Iberia subdivision.

KATC reports Captain Wendell Raborn of the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office received calls yesterday afternoon from New Iberia residents about a mother bear and her cub roaming through the Southwood Park Subdivision.

The last things anyone wants or needs is a scared mama bear who thinks she needs to protect her baby.

Wildlife and Fisheries handle the trapping and relocating of bears in residential areas in the state and that the sheriff's office hands over these types of cases to LDWF when they occur.

Wildlife agents say they do not believe there is currently any cause for alarm, but that residents in the area should keep a sharp eye out for these two and stay vigilant.
