SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Louisiana State Police say a slot machine manager stole $3,000 from Sam's Town Hotel & Casino in Shreveport.

State Police Col. Mike Edmonson says it's the first time since gambling was legalized in Louisiana that a "key employee" — an upper-level casino manager — has been arrested.

Frank Leeper of Haughton was arrested Friday on felony theft charges and released on $5,000 bail from the Caddo Parish jail. Leeper couldn't be reached for comment and it's unclear if he has a lawyer.

Troopers say the 45-year-old director of slot machines created fraudulent credit payouts at least three times, and then stole the money.

State Troopers say they investigated, questioning Leeper when he arrived at work Friday. Police say he confessed to the thefts.

Troopers say Leeper didn't steal from gamblers.
