The pollen is flying free across South Louisiana and we allergy sufferers are about as close to a snotty nosed watery death as we can get without actually calling the funeral home. This is as about as miserable as it gets.

If you suffer from seasonal allergies then you know what I am talking about. If your nose is running and your eyes are watering and you've got a nagging cough and sore throat from the sinus drip you are not alone.

According to the website Pollen.com, we are seeing some of the highest possible pollen counts we can see in the Lafayette area. On a scale of one to ten with ten being the absolute worst our pollen readings have been in the eights and nines for the past week.

The bad news is they aren't expected to drop off anytime soon. Even an approaching cold front will only clean the air with thunderstorms and rain for a few days and then we'll be back to our not so silent suffering.

Before you take any medication you should always contact your medical professional but I can say for me the over-the-counter products have given me some relief. I just can't take them and stay awake for work. Which, come to think of it, might not be such a bad thing.
