Louisiana Ragin' Cajun point guard Elfrid Payton was selected 10th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, before having his rights traded to the Orlando Magic in exchange for the 12th overall pick Dario Saric, and a future first and secound round pick, according to multiple reports.

Payton becomes the second Ragin' Cajun top 10 NBA draft pick, and like Andrew Toney in 1980 (8th overall), was taken by the 76ers. However, Toney stayed with Philly. Payton is heading to Orlando.

Payton reportedly had an excellent workout with the Magic, leading many to predict him going 12th overall to Orlando. Instead, Payton can keep, "Top 10 NBA draft pick" on his career resume, and still play for a Magic team who was anxious to select him.

Lettering all 3 years at Louisiana, Payton impressed all who watched him play. Last season, he was the only player in Division I NCAA basketball who averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. He was named the Sun Belt Conference defensive player of the year, and was one of ten D1 players this season to register a triple-double.

In addition, Payton earned the Sun Belt Conference defensive player of the year, the “Pete Maravich Memorial Award”, and the renowned Left Driesell Award, which is presented to the top defensive player in the nation.
