In a Wednesday night game on ESPN2, the Ragin' Cajuns had a chance to impress a national television audience. Instead, they floundered offensively in a 24-0 loss to Appalachian State before an announced crowd of 16,960.

The Mountaineers scored on their first four possessions, on drives of 58, 92, 80 and 69 yards. The Cajuns, meanwhile, had two scoring drives in the first half, but both resulted in missed field goals.   It was the first time the Cajuns had been shut out at home since the 2002 season when they fell to North Texas 27-0.

"We have to do a better job of putting our offense in position to be successful," head coach Mark Hudspeth said after the game.  "We didn't turn it over tonight and we had a couple of decent drives, but we gave up sacks at inopportune times.  We didn't do a good job of getting the ball downfield,"  Hudspeth said after the Cajuns had just one play over twenty yards in the contest, a 21 yard pass to Gabe Fuselier.

App State outgained the Cajuns (2-4, 1-2 Sun Belt) 372 to 267, in the total yards department, and the Cajuns only collected 128 yards through the air. The App State defense harassed Anthony Jennings all night long for five sacks, taking the air out of numerous drives. Even though they never turned the ball over, the offense never got off the ground.

Appalachian State set the tone early as the Mountaineers (4-2, 2-0 Sun Belt) hit on a 56 yard pass from Taylor Lamb to Shaedon Meadors on App State's first offensive play of the game.  Meadors, who had only 120 yards receiving on the season coming into the game, had six catches for 128 yards, with all but eight of those yards coming in the first half.

Jalin Moore, who gained 106 yards on 14 carries, scored the touchdown from two yards out on the following play to give Appalachian State a 7-0 lead just two and a half minutes into the contest.  Moore would later score on a 41 yard run in the second quarter.

Lamb completed 15-26 for 201 yards and a seven yard touchdown pass to tight end Collin Reed in the second quarter.

Elijah McGuire carried the ball just ten times for 43 yards in the game, while Anthony Jennings completed 19-32 for 121 yards.  He was sacked five times.

Louisiana will take the weekend off before heading to Texas State on Saturday, October 22.
