It has not happened since 2002 -- the Ragin' Cajuns softball team will be hosting an NCAA Regional.

May 18-20 at Lamson Park, #6 ranked UL (49-4) will play in the postseason for the 22nd time overall and 14th straight year. The Cajuns won the Sun Belt Conference regular season title for the 11th time in the last 12 years. However, in the Sun Belt Conference tournament UL fell in the championship game to South Alabama 3-1, leaving some to question whether the team would lose out on hosting in the regional round.

Good thing that did not happen.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to host,” co-head coach Michael Lotief said. “I think it’s a reward and a testament to the girl’s body of work throughout the season. This is big for the fans and community and will help this sport grow. I think our fan support is one of the best in the country.”

The Cajuns were awarded the #14 national seed and will be the #1 seed in their Regional. The other teams making the Cajuns' regional are Stanford (38-17), Baylor (33-20) and Mississippi Valley State (34-17).

UL will face Mississippi Valley State on Friday at 6pm.

Tournament booklets will be available this morning (5/14) at 10am. All orders will be tournament booklets. Single game tickets will go on sale the first day of competition. For more ticket information, visit www.ragincajuns.com.
