Skies across South Louisiana this morning were for the most part cloud-free. Every now and again a star would be obscured by a passing cloud but that is about to change.

An approaching cold front will cause an increase in cloudiness throughout the day today. The cloud cover will inhibit the high temperature, but just slightly. We should still reach a warm 80 degrees for an afternoon maximum.

During the late afternoon and night time hours clouds should thicken and the threat of rain will be on the increase. Forecasters are giving most of us in the area about a 60% probability of a shower or thundershower during the night time hours.

There are still flood warnings for some of the rivers and streams across the area. While the amount of rain should not be excessive, the additional rainfall will exacerbate the situation.  Most of the rain will be closely tied to the passing of a cold front through the area.

Thursday should find a few lingering showers left over from the early morning rain. Then skies will begin to clear. The afternoon should include some sunshine but temperatures will be about ten degrees cooler. The outlook for the weekend does include a chance of showers by Sunday.
