These days, Ray describes his musical style as “soul, funk, and love”, but that wasn’t always the case. Born and raised in south Louisiana, a region known for its Cajun culture, Ray was influenced early on by Cajun, zydeco, and swamp-pop music.

Ray picked up guitar while playing along to swamp-pop classics and soul standards with other musicians on front porches and tailgates around Louisiana. Around the age of 20, Ray began cutting his teeth on the south Louisiana music scene playing bars and benefits with his band that covers a diverse range of artists from Otis Redding and Prince to Black Keys and Ginuwine.

Though he prefers to go by “Ray”, his friends and family will often call him “T-Ray” (little Ray), due to the Cajun tradition of using the prefix “T” to describe a person named after his father.

Ray has a young daughter named Audrey, and hopes that regardless of how far he goes in the competition, his time on The Voice will inspire her to always follow her dreams in life.
