I stopped last night on my way home from dinner to put gas in my wife's car. As I stood outside pumping the fuel I realized that my full tank of gas was about ten dollars less than I thought it would be. If you don't pay too much attention to gas prices either you  might be pleasantly surprised to hear the news that gas prices in Louisiana are at a four year low.

Checking around the state we find that the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.88 a gallon. Checking some of the prices around Lafayette, we find that gas prices are as low as $2.70 a gallon.

Analyst Donald Redman with the American Automobile Association says with the political climate around the world it wouldn't be unusual for prices to be significantly higher.

"Historically, we would expect those prices to be higher, but no.  In fact, we're seeing prices we haven't seen since 2010."

The low prices can be attributed to the basic economic fundamentals of supply and demand.

"And you're looking at a very health inventory of crude oil.  In fact, oil, which would traditionally would be, especially with the violence in the Middle East, hovering around $100 a barrel is sticking around $80 to $81 a barrel."

Redman's comments were reported in a story published by the Louisiana Radio Network. The outlook for November is suggesting that even lower gas prices could be in our future as supplies continue to remain good throughout the country.
