Report: Saints Sign Safety Jamarca Sanford

With several ailing players in the secondary, the New Orleans Saints signed veteran safety Jamarca Sanford to the roster today, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.

Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis injured his knee in Sunday's loss to San Francisco, but informed the New Orleans media that he plans to play this Sunday when the Saints host Cincinnati.

New Orleans safety Vinnie Sunseri, a rookie out of Alabama, left Sunday's loss to the 49ers with an apparent arm injury. Sunseri plays primarily on special teams.

Sanford, who played collegiately at Ole Miss, spent 5 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings from 2009-2013. After being released in August, he signed with the Washington Redskins, spending all of his playing time with the special teams unit, before being released 16 days ago.

To add Sanford to the active roster, the Saints waived center/guard Eric Olsen.

With Sunseri's emphasis on special teams, and Sanford only playing special teams with the Redskins this year, the move could suggest Sunseri missing time.
